Green Affordable Housing

hundredyear Consulting is committed to helping affordable housing developers create homes that are energy efficient, durable, and healthy.  Our publication,
A Community Guide to Green Affordable Housing in Indianapolis, explains green building basics and explores the synergies between green building and affordable housing.

In 2007, the City of Indianapolis partnered with hundredyear Consulting to create green building guidelines for the Department of Metropolitan Development HOME Investment Partnership Program.  The federal HOME program supports the development of more than 50 affordable homeownership opportunities annually in Indianapolis.  By building healthy homes that are affordable to both purchase and own, community housing developers are fostering strong, economically diverse communities.

The Green HOME Program is designed to serve as an entry-level point of departure for affordable housing developers and builders who may not be familiar with green building concepts.  Based on building science best practices, the program guidelines take a prescriptive, sequential approach to achieving high-performing, climate-specific, code-compliant homes.  Our primary goal is to facilitate the widespread adoption of these green building best practices through ease of implementation.
